American Tea Party 2009: Nashville Tennessee Pictures

Tea Party Protesters at Nashville's War Memorial Auditorium Feb 27, 2009

As promised, here's the update on how things went at the Tennessee Tea Party 2009 on Friday, February 27, 2009. The Tennessean reported:

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the state capitol Friday, despite the heavy rains that turned the War Memorial plaza into a puddle, for a “Nashville Tea Party” rallying against the $787 billion federal stimulus package.

In fact, the estimate was about 600 in attendance bearing tea and hilarious signs. One totally crazy guy even dressed up like a Native American the way they did at the original Tea Party in Boston:

He argued that we were doing a great thing that day, but that our actions paled in comparison to those of our forebears, who had to disguise themselves to avoid retribution at the hands of a tyrannical establishment. He said that their actions were far bolder than ours and that we 21st century Americans aren't radical enough.

He was the best dressed guy there. After the event was over, half the crowd marched down the street to the local Congressional office of Congressman Jim Cooper to rebuke him for voting to pass the "Stimulus Package."

"Mmmm... Protesting Makes Me Hungry."

Here's The Tennessean's short video covering the event. It's only two minutes long and if you wait until the end, you'll hear a "really smart" guy say a thing or two about the protest. He had a little bit of nervous energy, but he showed a lot of spirit!

  1. I wish they would have something like this within driving distance for me here in PA. Generally the Harrisburg (capital) radio station's talk radio guys do a good job of rallying up the troops. Keep shining the spotlight of the truth on these guys. Good job. Dave

  3. Dave- in all seriousness... if they don't have one of these within driving distance of you, organize one and do it quickly! People are excited and now is the time to harness that enthusiasm for freedom and turn it into political activism.

E-mail me and I will be glad to support in any way I can. Using what we did here in Nashville, I can help you to set up a blueprint for a protest- all the steps you need to take to make it happen.

Ted, that's not even an issue for me. Let's say you believed he was eligible and born in the United States, he still signed legislation that none of our representatives read, that he didn't read, and that none of us got the chance to read. How's that for taxation without representation? They didn't even give our representatives enough time to read it before bringing it to the floor for a vote!

  4. Haha, Wesley. You're awesome.
    - Ashley (...Steve's girlfriend. Steve June. Gary's brother's girlfriend.)

  5. Thanks, Ashley! You plan on throwing a big anti-stimulus bash in your town soon? ;)

  6. The thing for me is that nmost of what was in that bill was regular appropriations. It should have gone through the appropriation process. Some may have been good, some bad, but no one really knows.

The bill should have been limited to things like unemployment assistance and an NOL carryback provision (to allow businesses to carryback losses from this year back further for tax purposes).

  7. Hey I'm with you that it was way too big. If it were up to me though, it wouldn't even have had unemployment benefits. Those actually hurt recovery and cause fewer jobs to be created. I would have just enough spending to permanantly repeal the payroll tax and get rid of a lot of strangling regulation on business.
