March 10th Is Tenth Amendment Day

United States Constitution (source)

I just wanted to remind you that tomorrow- March 10, 2009- is "Tenth Amendment" day:

Thomas Jefferson described the Tenth Amendment as “the foundation of the Constitution” and added, “to take a single step beyond the boundaries thus specially drawn … is to take possession of a boundless field of power, no longer susceptible of any definition.”

Now remember that the 10th Amendment to the Constitution restricts Federal powers with the following words:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Tomorrow is a day to send e-mails and make phone calls to our state officials (like your governor and your state congressman) to remind them that our nation is a nation of laws and our Constitution is the supreme law of the land. Let's urge them to fight the expansion of Federal power into the sovereign domain of each of the fifty states by phoning them and e-mailing them to say something akin to the following:

Dear Representative [NAME]

This is a friendly reminder that I still believe in the 10th Amendment. Please represent me.

Thank you,
[NAME]

Perhaps they will be emboldened to know that the residents of their respective states and districts back them up in claiming the sovereign powers which rightfully and lawfully belong to their elected offices as state officials.

Please take just ten minutes out of your day tomorrow to help make a difference. Thanks!

My second favorite amendment actually. I remember during the EU constitution process talking to a pro-Constitution European as to why I would have voted against it. One issue -- in one sentance the US Constitution said what the EU COnstitution's subsidiarity clause tried to say in something like 10 pages.

Oh yeah! One of the biggest problems we have these days is that we just drown in pages and pages of legislation. If it takes that many words to say it, then it's probably not good.

Why invest in precious metals?

Over the last 5 years, the US dollar has lost nearly 50% of its value relative to the other major currencies, as the value of the U.S. Dollar declined, gold and silver prices have increased.
