There is a diversity of responses within the broader libertarian movement to the 912 march on Washington this past Saturday. Many in the commentariat (especially on the social democrat side of things) have accused the 912 protesters of being far-right authoritarians in libertarians' clothing, so it is interesting as a libertarian myself to put ones finger to the pulse of libertarian opinion regarding the event.
Here's a smattering from some libertarian blogs and websites:

Two Thumbs Up Here...
If you've been fed a steady media diet of MSNBC over the last few months, though, you could be excused for fearing a Pennsylvania Avenue takeover by a rabble of pitchfork-wielding cranks and extras from "Deliverance." But the crowd... was made up of orderly, pleasant, middle-class Americans from all across the country.
'No Child Left A Dime' - That’s my favorite placard from the Washington tea party protests on Saturday. No Child Left a Dime underlines perhaps the central concern of the protesters — the ongoing massive fiscal irresponsibility in Washington by both parties.
And One Thumb Down
Beck’s purpose with the Project? "We want to get everyone thinking like it is September 12th, 2001 again." My God, why in the world would anyone want that? Yes, 9/12 brought moving displays of patriotism and a comforting sense of national unity, but that hardly made up for the fear, rage and sorrow that dominated the national mood and at times clouded our vision.

Two Thumbs Way Down
Really, DC is one nasty place. So why would anyone concerned about the state and its power "march on Washington"? Such events only dissipate energy, and fool people into thinking that their time and money have accomplished something, as the regime laughs up its sleeve. Indeed, that is the purpose. So stay home. Read, write, work, organize, and avoid DC like the plague it is.
The Independent Institute:
One Thumb Up...
This demonstration may reflect one of the fastest growing, grassroots movements in American history and one that is rapidly inspiring millions of people of the need to seek major reductions in the size and scope of government power. Simultaneously, the poll ratings for Obama and Congress, and state governments continue to drop.
And One Thumb Sideways
So, when I see demonstrations like the one that just took place in Washington, I sympathize with the people who’ve gone to the trouble of protesting against the government’s abuses, but I find myself wondering, Do these poor souls really think they’ll accomplish something by this protest?
Two Thumbs Up
The 912 March on Washington was a culmination of several Tea Party rallies that have taken place throughout the year to protest the encroachment of Big Government. Many free market organizations, including Bureaucrash, cosponsored the event. What took place this past Saturday certainly exceeded all expectations.
The Libertarian Party
Washington - Libertarian Party headquarters staff and interns joined the 9/12 Tea Party March on Washington. After gathering at Freedom Plaza, just blocks from the White House, the march proceeded the 1.1 miles down Pennsylvania Avenue to the U.S. Capitol for a rally.

Two Thumbs Way Up
Americans are waking up! The Sleeping Giant of the Moral Majority is waking from her slumber. The Obamanation is on it's descendency and it only took 6 months.... Beware miscreants in the media bearing news of low attendance, some outlets were quoting crowds in the 'tens of thousands'. Horse-hockey, don't let them get away with it!
The question is- what do you think about the 912 rally in D.C. and about the commentary you've read above?
Editor's note: If you run a libertarian blog or website and have commentary on the 912 event that you would like me to include in this post- drop me a line.
