Still Dithering: White House Official Insists Obama Has No Clue What He's Doing

Late last night, the story broke that President Obama would be sending 40,000 more troops to Afghanistan for an extended, nation-building stay in the region:

"Tonight, after months of conferences with top advisors, President Obama has settled on a new strategy for Afghanistan. CBS News correspondent David Martin reports that the president will send a lot more troops and plans to keep a large force there, long term.

The president still has more meetings scheduled on Afghanistan, but informed sources tell CBS News he intends to give Gen. Stanley McChrystal most, if not all, the additional troops he is asking for."

But White House National Security Advisor James Jones strongly insists that this is not true, that the President still has absolutely know idea what he's going to do about Afghanistan, that he hasn't even reviewed his final options for what to do in Afghanistan, and that the Administration hasn't even put together such options to be reviewed in the first place:

"Reports that President Obama has made a decision about Afghanistan are absolutely false. He has not received final options for his consideration, he has not reviewed those options with his national security team, and he has not made any decisions about resources. Any reports to the contrary are completely untrue and come from uninformed sources."

Very telling, no?

The Administration not only admits, but fiercely insists that it has no idea what it's going to do about Afghanistan, and hasn't even really put together its final options. Are you doing anything over there, Mr. President!?

Anything other than aggressively debasing our currency, I mean? Think you can pencil in our dying troops and hemorrhaging military budget somewhere between trips to Copenhagen and playing with lightsabers on the White House lawn?

We elected Barack Obama a year ago. You'd think by now, he would have been able to figure out what direction to take in Afghanistan. This is just another of the many ugly faces of our new President.

We've seen Savior-in-Chief Obama, Commander-in-Thief Obama, Celebrity-in-Chief Obama, and now we've got Ditherer-in-Chief. But it's not so funny when people are dying.

Where has the anti-war movement gone? Where are the people who carried signs for the last eight years? Where are you people? Speak up because this is getting ridiculous.

McChrystal should've had his troop increase on Day 1. To leave our brave soldiers short-handed and twisting in the wind is a travesty.

Commander-in-Chief? No. COWARD-in-Chief!!!

Is it 2013 yet???

I agree that if we are going to pursue a strategy of fighting the Taliban in the Middle East, that we had better give our troops the numbers, equipment, and rules of engagement that will help them do the job and come home safely.

I disagree that this strategy is the best one to keep America safe. I like Malou Innocent's analysis on this matter:
