Updates on Matt Collins and the Nashville Davidson County Republican Party

Matt Collins Needs Our Help!

Earlier this month I reported on the situation happening in the county Republican Party where I live, a perfect microcosm of the larger fight for the heart and soul of the GOP.

To review briefly- after months of internal struggle between the Constitutionalist faction of the party and the group that seems bound and determined to be "the bailout" faction, the bailout people are officially moving to oust the party's First Vice Chairman, Matt Collins, for his outspoken support of Constitutional principles.

And now it gets even better! One of the official reasons cited for the attempted removal of Matt Collins from his post, is his alleged support for third party, Libertarian candidates at the expense of Republican candidates. This is a patently false claim, as Matt has not supported a single non-Republican candidate since assuming his office.

But here's what knocked me out of my seat: As it turns out, according to one of the Davidson County Republicans Party's active members in a recent e-mail, DCRP Chairwoman, Kathleen Starnes actually did support a third party candidate at the expense of a Republican Party candidate- Doug Hoffman in the NY-23 Congressional election!

So she is in fact guilty of violating one of the bylaws that she seeks to remove Matt Collins for violating- when he has done no such thing! Folks, Matt Collins needs our help. Please politely e-mail some of the following officers of the DCRP and let them know that you think actively and vocally supporting the Constitution is no vice, but the very highest duty of the Republican Party and all its members.

If you are not from Tennessee, your voice still matters and can hold sway. It can definitely make a difference to let Nashville's Republicans know that the world is watching and that their actions reverberate throughout their party and country as a whole. If you are from Tennessee, that's even better! Here's the list:

I have a choice whether to work for my republican rep. or not in the next election campaign if they oust Matt, I will not donate, volunteer or support any GOP candidates and will encourage all my friends to do the same. Sometimes it's better to burn the house down and then rebuild it.

I will definitely have to reconsider whether I want to get involved with the DCRP, an issue I've been thinking over as I approach my college graduation this 2009 and consider how I want to get involved locally as I settle in Nashville for a while.
