I Give Obama an F

In an interview that aired earlier this week, President Obama told Oprah Winfrey that he gives himself "a good solid B-plus" grade for his presidency so far, noting that the only thing standing in the way of an A is no health care reform so far, and jobless rates.

So I decided to put together a little report card of my own, and the President definitely didn't get a B-plus:

I'm curious how you think obama is 'helping out insurance companies'.

He's stated that he's in favor of moving towards a single payor system, which would mean the death of the US Health Insurance Company.

How is he helping them by wanting to kill them (single payor/socialized medicine)?

Hey, thanks for asking!

All of the reform proposals coming out of Washington are heavily influenced by insurance lobbyists and result in a transfer of money from hard working Americans to the insurance lobby.

For example, policies that mandate coverage from employers will get insurance companies more policies (and more money), but will cause layoffs of every employee whose marginal return to their employer is lower than the cost of insuring them. So big insurance companies win, while poor and middle class Americans lose! Not. Fair.

The Obama's, Pelosi's, Reid's, and Boehner's "solutions" don't lower prices, improve quality, and provide more access. They also don't do anything to substantially challenge the coercive monopoly power that insurance companies hold today.

One real solution I have pushed again and again on this blog, is for Congress to write a very simple, short bill (it should take less than a dozen pages) that prohibits all the states from mandating what gets covered in a policy and not allowing their residents to purchase non-compliant policies from other states.

This is one of the very biggest reasons health insurance companies are so powerful and unresponsive to our real needs, while charging us prices that most Americans can't afford. If we did this one thing, it would make a HUGE difference. This solution is easy, simple, effective, and non-partisan.

So why aren't any of our politicians trying to do this?

Your standards are so high, I don't think any president could get a D. I wouldn't say our presidents a failure, lackluster [C] or disappointing [D] is perhaps a better assessment of the president.

Pre-election math never adds up, the president knows a lot more than the candidate does. Global warming is up in the air it has not been disproven, the word "climate change" is being used now because scientists are starting to realize that instability is what we need to worry about not just warming.

The USSR was trying to build an empire, we are not, at least now there is a timetable.

Would you prefer he read from a script? Teleprompters are used so he can look you in the eyes while he speaks.

We will never have a president obey the constitution, remember the last 3 presidents? It just got worse and worse and worse.

Alexander, Wesley's standards aren't too high, the avergae American's are too low. We have become a scoiety that is willing to settle for the "average." I am sorry, but I cannot take average from the man who stands for me. I am not average and neither should he be.

Pre-election math hasn't added up because voters haven't taken the time to sit down and look at a canidate's voting record. It is their job to convice the voter to vote for him, but it is our job to properly interview and consider the canidate, which we haven't done in a very long time. We have become a lazy as a whole and only when people do their homework will pre-election math "add up."

How can you say we're not trying to build an empire?! We have become the police state, starting with Woodrow Wilson and his meddling in Mexico, the Carribean, and Haiti and his League of Nations. After that bright(and incredibly faulty) moral compass, the U.S. has stationed troops in almost every country! I repeat, how can you say we're not trying to build an empire?

Debaters, actors, and singers manage to memorize what they need to say, why can't our president? We need to raise the bar. Is having a good speaking voice and proper diction as important as following the Constitution and promoting liberty? of course not, but as he cannot manage the last two, he should have the charisma to entertain me properly as I listen to his self-important speeches.

The last three presidents have not followed the Constitution. Ha! We haven't had a decent president since before Teddy. And while those presidents may have been weak, they were still stronger than the ones voted into office now. But you're right, our presidents have been seriously lax in following the "Law of the Land." And who's fault is that?? Ours, of course. We elect idiots. Whoever convinces us of their goodness wins. It's a total joke. American people must stand up for their rights, or we will be stripped of them.

This "report card" while funny, does hit a nerve. It shouldn't be grading Obama, it should be grading us. And I am afriad the grade would be the same.

I FEEL THAT OUR GOVERNMENT OFFICALS HAVE FORGOTTEN WHO PAY THEIR PAY CHECKS. THEY NEED TO SEAPART THEMSELFS FROM THEIR PARTIES AND GET DOWN TO THE JOB THEY WERE PUT IN THERE TO DO, TO LOOK OUT FOR THE AMERICAN CITIZENS BEST INTEREST. IT IS TIME THEY QUIT ACTING LIKE A BUNCH OF TWO YEAR OLD CHILDREN, WE ARE TIRED OF IT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
I AM PROUD TO BE A AMERICAN CITIZEN, BUT I AM ASHAMED OF OUR GOVERNMENT OFFICALS. YOU ALL TALK A GOD GAME PLAN ABOUT HEALTH CARE,BUT ARE ANY OF YOU WILLING TO TAKE THE SAME PLAN YOU WANT TO GIVE US,I DO NOT THINK SO.
LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT YOUR SENIOR CITIZENS AND THEIR HEALTH CARE PLAN. MY FATHER HAD TO BE FLOWN TO UK A FEW WEKS AGO, ALL HE HAS IS MEDICARE PART A AND B, WHEN HE RECIEVED THE BILL IT WAS 23,000 DOLLARS THIS IS ASHAME. MY
MOTHER HAS COBD BUT CAN NOT AFFORD TO GO THE
DOCTOR BECAUSE WHAT MEDICARE DOES NOT CVER COMES OUT OF HER POCKET. I FEEL ITS A SHAME THAT A COUNTRY AS GREAT AS WE ARE CAN NOT PROVIDE FOR OUR SENIOR CIZENS ANY BETTER THEN THIS. THESE PEOPLE HAVE WORKED ALL THEIR LIFES AND PAID INTO A SYSTEM THAT AFTER THEY RETIRE THAT THEY CAN NOT EVEN AFFORD GOOD MEDICAL CARE.
NOW YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT NO RAISES FOR THESE CITIZENS FOR TWO MORE YEARS, YOU NEED TO TRY TO LIVE ON WHAT THEY RECIEVE FOR A MONTH ON THE WAY PRICES ARE GOING UP EVERY DAY. THEY WERE TOLD IF THEY FILED FOR SEAPARTION THAT ALL THEIR BILLS COULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. IT IS A SHAME WHEN OU SENIOR CITIZENS HAVE TO CHOSE BETWEEN PAYING THEIR BILLS, EATING, OR BUYING MEDICINE.
COULD ANY OF YOU GOVERNMENT OFICALS LIVE ON
EIGHT HUNDRED A MONTH? WHEN YOU ARE AT YOUR BIG PARTIES, OR GO HOME TO YOUR BIG HOUSES I HOPE JUST ONCE WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO THE PEOPLE WELL CROSS YOUR MINDS, BECAUSE THE AMERICACITIZENS ARE HURTING BADLY RIGHT NOW.

AJ Fremont- Thanks for your comment. Please let me assure you that I am not a partisan hack simply spewing anger at Obama (not that I'm saying you implied that at all!). I would give Bush an F too. Not because my standards are so high, but because these presidents are truly bad!

The pre-election math Obama used was obviously wrong then, and nothing he would have learned as president could have made that any clearer. You simply cannot spend all that he proposed to spend as a candidate and also maintain that you will reduce deficits and not raise taxes. It's simply F-worthy math.

As for global warming, after the fallout from the publication of SuperFreakonomics, the East Anglia Climate Research Center's information leak, and the spectacle of the UN summit on climate change in Copenhagen, I don't think it could be any clearer what a fraud this whole thing is.

Regarding Afghanistan- the timetable thing and the number of troops he committed was actually the worst possible thing he could do. He really fouled this up and ignored his history on this one.

As for the teleprompter thing- that was more for a bit of fun than a serious criticism.

"We will never have a president obey the constitution..." Exactly! I would give most of them Fs. Just because thirty other kids failed a test, that doesn't mean the 31st kid who failed it should get a free pass.

When it comes to our freedoms, safety, and justice, I do not grade on a curve!
