Iranian Protesters Chant "Allahu Ackbar!"

Ahead of today's student protests in Iran, in a new round of Mousavi-driven fury at the brutal autocracy of "President" Ahmadinejad, students last night were chanting on rooftops:

Fight on, Persian Patriots, fight on! I am with you in spirit. Allahu Ackbar! God is great, not Ahmadinejad! Westerners- pay attention! Here are Muslims chanting Allahu Ackbar in the name of their Liberties, not in an assault on ours.

Where are the non-militant Muslims, you ask? The Muslims who want to live in a free, pluralistic society governed by a more secular state? The Muslims who want to live in peace with the world? Here they are! Here they are above, protesting by the thousands in Iran and suffering abuse at the hands of the state.

The Tea Party can take a listen in some real protesting from these patriots in Iran. And they have rallied around a true, policy-driven, ideas-driven leader, not a cult of personality as many of the tea partiers have started to do. Let us share both their pragmatism and their idealism. Let us share their boldness and tenacity. Let us stand up against our own state as they are.

Iranians are mostly Shi'ites. Part of their beliefs is a separation of mosque and state. The Islamic revolution is an anomaly in this case.

Really? I didn't know that. Thanks for enlightening me.

I should be clearer and say not all Shi'ites believe this and it isn't a concrete belief that the "Sultan" and Ulama are separate.

I should definitely research that more. One of my professors at Belmont University (an Austrian economist) is a strong advocate of the belief that Islam is fundamentally compatible with liberty.

Do you understand the signifigance of the rooftop chanting?

It was what the mullahs had their people do when the Shah cracked down on them.

The protestors are saying "we are the revelution now" - We are the ones using the power of the people and you are the corrupt state.

I can fucking dig it!!!
